The System

A complete dotforms system is made up of three components with defined specifications:
Digital pen, digital paper, and application.

The digital pen has a regular ballpoint that meets all important criteria – faxability, scanability, and document quality. The supplied refills are utterly simple to replace.

In addition, these digital pens have built-in electronics – a CCD camera, processor, data storage, rechargeable power source, and Bluetooth and/or USB interface. All are robust, and protected inside the pen.

digital pen
The pen can store up to 150 pages of writing data. Whenever desired, the recorded data can be uploaded from the pen to a server. This happens automatically whenever the pen is inserted into a docking station connected to the computer by USB cable, or by Bluetooth link to a mobile phone that links to a web server.

Power recharging is via the docking station or a separate power cable.

The data in the pen includes all positioning coordinates and the time that they were recorded, plus the pen’s individual ID number.

digital paper
The second component is a dotforms digital form. This looks like any other form, and is printed on the same paper or substrate as a regular form. The only difference is a very fine dot grid printed on the background. The pen reads this dot grid as absolute coordinates, which tell it where and on which page it is writing. Halbach Teknolojik Baskilar print products is the first printer in Germany to undergo certification for this process, and we are now fully certified to print forms with this dot grid.

dotforms application
The third component is an application or program that takes in the pen data and processes it. This software can run locally on a desktop, or on a web server for Internet and intranet applications. Halbach Teknolojik Baskilar print products can process the data on the dotforms webserver, or help you set up or expand your own web server for this purpose.

The application does whatever you want with the data – generate e-mails to variable addresses, make and index electronic copies of the forms, interpret checkboxes and numerical values, etc.

In essence, whatever a computer can do with data, can be done with a dotforms application.
